you my friend are an absolute idiot!!! don't talk about things you don't know..since the test pipe is literally a freaking pipe...nothing mechanical about it..how the hell would that do anything to his engine...next time don't speak and you'll help us all out.
ANY mods to the drivetrain, whether they cause the actual problem or not, are enough to cause these aftermarket extended warranties to not pay out. Read the fine print on the warranty.

hells no, i'm a new member and i can't stand seeing crap like that being posted...if the OP had a race built supercharger pumping insane boost and it blew the engine then i'd say something like that...but a test pipe is the same exact thing as the cat but it doesn't have the honeycomb/platinum in it...how the f is that gonna cause anything the OP has had happen to him? don't be a freaking idiot....like i pointed out though...the OP was just as bad taking the car into the dealer with the parts on it...wtf you think they're gonna do if they see an easy exit door on your claim?!?!
Please try to calm down and have a good day.

According to the "mythology" of s2ki, engines made after engine # 1025386 (mid-year change for 2002) have the new bolts.
Out of curiosity did you buy your S2000 used or new? It would be interesting to learn what your engine number is...

And yes, I was there when they took the bolts off and scoped the #4 cylinder
Honda stepped up and replaced motor.
In term of paying you $5K to fix your car no, but if it was mine then yes. I paid invoice for the car and paid it off then loan years ago.
If your car is consuming the majority of your income, then you may need to rethink your priorities.
1. You are born
2. You go to school
3. Get higher education (optional but a really good recommendation)
4. Get a job to pay for number 3 and taxes
5. Work smarter and harder for the next 30 years (save aggressively and pay more taxes)
6. Retire (this is an option that you should have had in mind on day one of step 4; pay taxes)
7. Pass on (pay taxes)

I hate to say it, but you are a crooked mechanic's wet dream. You just seem so clueless. Sorry.
IMO, what you really need is to find a trustworthy and skilled mechanic and just dump the whole thing in his/her lap. Unfortunately, that's pretty hard to find.

Good luck with your repair.

)Just relax and don't get hot under the collar before getting your own ducks in a row.
Get an independent automotive engineer on the case. The good ones will investigate the problem and provide a written diagnosis and act as an expert witness if it ever goes to court.
In my experience, as soon as an automotive engineer gets involved the BS from the dealer stops as they know your next step is most likely with lawyers.
I had a claim against a hotel that stripped reverse gear in my car while parking it. The automotive engineer they hired actually reported in my favour and they paid for the damage
good luck
