Help with Replacing Soft Top,
The key question here is how much is your comprehensive deductible on your insurance? If you have a $1,000 deductible you could replace the top with an aftermarket top for less than the price of the deductible if you do the labor yourself. If your deductible is lower, just pay the deductible and let a professional install a new top.
O my total cost was less than 1200.00 bucks ...a good shop should be able to help you , not sure where to get the cloth top , I bought mine custom from a shop , then paid to hv a pro do the install

These cases are only going to get worse as the unemployment rate continues to rise.
If I had to live in a city area and park in public parking lots at night I would not own an S2000.

I'd have it done by a pro, even with a $500 deductible it's well work the headache avoidance. My top was cut a couple of months ago and besides slashing the top they dimpled my trunk lid, the f^ckers. I went with a GAHH top in blue which comes with a lifetime guarantee on the rear window not separating from the fabric. It's cheaper than OEM but much higher quality.
3g's! That's rape. Damn man I've replaced tops twice. It is really not THAT bad. I bet I do a better job of replacing every part nut bolt plastic pieces back how and where they belong better than the dealer for sure. I know because i've witnessed their work. Plus I'm anal and meticulous

I would keep going through your insurance. As long as you can meet your deductible, it will save you the headache. The top itself is not overly expensive (still looking at ~$600-$1200 for a top and parts) but the labor involved in replacing it can be tedious. If you have time and patience, it might be worthwhile. However, if your deductible is lower than the cost of a new top and your insurance will cover it as comprehensive, than you would be better off going that route. It shouldn't affect your insurance rate either and you will get the work performed by a professional with a warranty.
Good luck man!

Sorry to hear that, man. Did you have an alarm? I figure if you have a flashing blue light that lights up the entire interior that the thieves would just move on to another s2000 unless the case is just vandalism, but it doesn't sound like yours is.
