Help with Replacing Soft Top,
Nothing against Honda replacing your top but I think you can do much better pricewise if you find an independant shop that would order from one of the afermarket sellers. The OEM top from Honda is going to be expensive and so will their charge for removing and replacing. I'm pretty sure 12 hundred dollars will not be enough to have Honda do it. On the other hand it may be plenty for an aftermarket and independant.

insurance gave me 1200 for their part of the estimate i'm planning to take it to honda how long does it usually take to get it replace?
I wrote a DIY in the UTH section.
By yourself, it's a relatively easy 8 hour job. I was sweating doing it for the longest time, but it really was easy to replace the top. Just need patience really; this car is so easy to work on.

Today I woke up and got ready for work. When i got out to go to the car i notice that my soft top has totally been ruined. It had 2 huge slash on side and back and a big sunroof hole in the middle =(. I already reported a claim figuring it would cost me 3000 from dealership to fix. Is it cheaper to fix it on my own and instead of going to the insurance. Anyone have any advice or suggestions on what to do on how to replace my soft top. Any sites to order the vinyl and service cheaper then going to the insurance. Thanks

Did you have aftermarket or stock rims on your civic? If they were aftermarket, maybe that's why they didn't want to absorb the additional cost. I've never heard of an insurance company charging a reduced value on a convertible top though... A convertible top is not what I would call a wear item because it can last the life of the car if properly cared for, whereas the tires on your rims do have a limited life. If an insurance company did try to charge me more than my deductible to fix a slashed top I would drop them in a second.

Now my insurance wont cover the fee if i get it fix by honda because its too much, from honda estimate it came out to 2300 and my insurance estimate from progressive came to 1200 and they wont pay the differ they said. They will pay the for the fix if i took it to the upholstery that they choose. I never heard of this before i though the insurance should play which ever place you choose. They told me if i choose then i would have to pay the difference which is 1700 (with the 500 deductible) What you guys think i should do.
Make them an offer they can't refuse. Tell them you will aquire the top your self (aftermarket est $600) and let them guide you to an installer which would be at their cost. Your total would be an estimated $600.
