Default Help - Split rear screen

Hi

I am new here and just wondered if anyone could offer me any advice. I have a Y reg Yellow S2000, with a lovely taped up windscreen. My boyfriend took one of his friends out in the S2K and they asked if it was a convertabile, which to me looks very obvious. Anyway he said yes look, with that he started to let the roof and heard a loud splitting noise.

I phoned the Honda garage and they quoted

Welcome, Lindsay.

The cracked vinyl window is a common problem with the MY00-MY01 convertible tops. Particularly if you operate the top in chilly weather.

I don't think you can repair it, but I'm not positive about that. Most folks use a replacement top. Robbins makes one that fits your year (with plastic rear), but another option is to move forward with a glass top replacement.

Anyway, I'll move your thread to S2000 Talk, where you might get some more input / suggestions. The prices you were quoted don't sound outrageous at all (if these folks can actually repair the top)... A replacement top will cost you about $1500US.

The aftermarket replacement top is about $600 I think, there was a do-it-yourself (DIY) posted just recently.

^ Yes, sorry, I was including the labor as well in my US estimate.

See the introductions forum FAQ thread for a link to the Robbins replacement DIY thread.

Also, bear in mind that the rear window IS replaceable in your car. It is zipped into place and I believe rivetted at the bottom but it is meant to be replaced without replacing the entire top.

See part listing here:

Instructions on replacement are here:

Thanks - That's really helpful.

Has anyone replaced there's what's the skill level needed is it difficult? Are there any special tools required.

It won't be me replacing it, my boyfriend is quiet handy, but also a bit ambitious.

If you look at the DIY for top replacement, it's not for the feint of heart. The window replacement, though, really didn't look too bad. Take a look at the link.
