Help wanted: Exhaust Tone/Note/Sound
Everyone, I am looking for your help. Currently I am running an Invidia exhaust with and without silencers (depends on the type of driving I am doing that day). Anyhow, it is a little loud for my taste (even with silencers in), so I am in the market for a new exhaust. If someone could put together a "chart" that ranked exhausts from most "quiet" to deafening
that would really help me (and I am sure others) out. I am going to guess that the OEM exhaust would be the most quiet.
Thanks in advance for all your help.
**BTW, I tried to do a search and came up empty. If this "ranking" has been done before, then feel free to post the link.**

Is it loud for you from the outside or in the cockpit while driving?
There have been a few people that posted how to reduce the resonation inside the car. Although I have yet to try it, I think the rear tray behind the roll hoops is a major contributer to exhaust annoyance. It's an open hole (with exception of the fuel tank and spare) to the underside of the car. Maybe it's just my paranoya, but I think a big flat piece of plastic over an open hole just above and behind the exhaust would generate a lot of noise.

Yes, it is interior noise. Right around 3500 rpms the droning sound is what I am trying to reduce. Around town it is fine, but for example, the 5 hour drive I had back from Fall Colors 03 was not fine. That is why I am trying to look for another option.
I will look at your solution. Thanks for the input.

check this one out. I think it comes close to what you are looking for.

Thanks for the link. Based on his scale, he had the Mugen closest to OEM (as far a sound). I think I may research the Mugen a little further and see. The only problem with the Mugen is the 1500 beans it costs

Do you want dual or single?
Comptech and Spugen duals sound good and are not too loud. My Spugen round canister single has the cockpit resonance you mention, but my homemade silencer killed most of that.

You're always going to get some type of resonance no matter what exhaust you use, unless you can find one that tuned it out for the entire RPM range better than Honda did with the stock setup, but then you'll probably be looking at a weight issue with that setup.
Not sure If I've mentioned this to you before but you may want to check the rear tray behind the roll hoops, it's a big flat sheet of plastic covering on open hole to the underside of the car. Something like Dyanmat or another dampening material may help reduce the level of noise from the resonance.
