Airgate, I have a simpler, more effective way to clean the car's interior and exterior in far fewer steps.

1. Drive car into lake

2. air dry

That happens a lot down here in Texas. I've lost count where I've parked the car top-down in crystal clear skies and had to make the mad dash to get the top up as the rains came down.

you would be surprised how hard it is to dry the car out by just running the heat, opening windows, etc. there will be low spots in the floor where water will sit and it will get absorbed into the carpet padding. you may want to pull the seats out, pull a few trim pieces and raise the carpet up. you don't need to pull it entirely out, but get it so you can sponge water out of the low spots and dry the carpet/padding from both sides.

a friend left the moonroof in his accord open overnight, and an inch or so of rain fell in his car. he used hair dryers and towels and "thought" he had it dry.....until i pulled seats and such. it wasn't dry at all underneath the carpet. i also pulled the leather off the seats to speed up the drying process there. it isn't that easy to pull the leather completely, but you can easily do it to give better circulation. when the seats were dry, we put lots of leather conditioner on them. luckily, his car didn't end up smelling musty and gross.

Yup, done it......

I found running the air conditioner worked great. I was only on my 3rd month of ownership when it happened to me.....

I had a similar experience but with frozen precipitation. I had my '87 Integra parked on the street at my parents house. It was the night before one of those horrific snowstorms we had here in the northeast during 1996. My dad did me the favor(or so I thought) of parking my car in the driveway in anticipation of snowplows cleaning the streets. In the process of parking my car, dear old dad rolled down my passenger window to see better because it was icy or foggy. He parked the car in the driveway and forgot to roll the window back up. The next morning I had about three feet of snow decorating the inside of my Integra. I got as much out as I could, but eventually I did have rust holes that went through my floor boards.

Same happened to me... I parked it under the garage with a crack in the top and the windows with the heat on full WITH SEVERAL PACKAGES OF BAKING SODA open in the CAR!!! This is the key. Trust me... it worked like a champ!

I then parked it with the top down in the sun all day and let it air dry.... I then sprinkled baking soda in all the carpet and vacumed it up later.

It was summer time so the temps were a little more forgiving... but the baking soda was the key for keeping the odor/mold out.
