I've done it twice.

Speaking of stupid things.
I opened the hood with the windshield wipers in the up position.
Yes twin scratches on the cowl of my beautifully waxed hood.

My method of drying was a Wind Chaser set on top of the center console. It ocilates.

Don't worry, your interior can take it...and more. I've been caught a few times in the Seattle rain. Once it happened in the worse possible place where I was forced to drive in the pouring ran for close to 10 minutes before I could pull over and do anything. Besides feeling like a very wet idiot, the car was no worse for wear after drying it up. Some folks from work actually saw me and had a good laugh, at my expense, the next day.
