High mileage S2Ks?
111,000 on my 2002 and runs strong. Feels newer and less worn out than my 2008 WRX with 36,000 on it.

Only issue I have is that the tail shaft bearing in my trans has failed and make a god-aweful whining noise while driving. I think probably do to neglect from the previous owner(s). I've got a spare tail shaft assembly in the garage, I've just been too lazy to swap it on.

Lol, well it should be pretty easy. I have a spare AP1 trans sitting in the garage, so I'm going to simply pull the tail shaft assembly off of it, and put it on my current trans. Should be as easy as taking off the drive shaft and shifter, lowering the trans down a little, and unbolting it. Then just the reverse to put the new one on.
If that doesn't do it, my DIY will be buying an AP2 trans

It seems to me that more people get the mod bug before they would ever really need to do a rebuild, how far are you planning on building the car for the track anyways? I would venture to guess that all you would really need to do is maybe a valve adjustment and bushings would never hurt.
