Bambi's mother is probably dead, and nobody seems to care about that poor orphaned critter. Shame on you all.

But, seriously, in my neck of the woods, the deer population is an incredible nuisance. I live in a heavily wooded gated community, and our security people secured the proper permits to 'cull' the deer population. That was done about three years ago, and the population crashed drastically and has not yet bounced back. Sea Pines (another gated community in our area) does not like to cull, and they would put up signs near the main gate stating how many deer/car accidents had occurred for the year, the number typically being in triple digits. We have a basically year round population, while Sea Pines is filled with tourists and transients.

Those tick infested hoofed pests are a great nuisance.

Looks like you lost some paint there too. My insurance company fixes dear hits without using the deductible, since your going to need that door painted I'd call yours up.

Really surprised how it didn't damage your door at all. Your one of the more lucky ones that get out of deer hits with very little damage. Good luck with the repairs.

Actually, there's no paint missing. The flash that made it look like that. Even though I'm bitching, I know I was extremely lucky as far as deer hits go.

during certain parts of the year tons of deer on the I87 nys thruway towards canada. i've come pretty close myself. i always drive pretty cautiously through certain parts of the road i know are deer hotspots. i will also see some people speeding like crazy on those dark dark dark patches of highway and it's so stupid because not only are they endangering deer they are endangering themselves. you have to be smart enough too understand when it's a 2 land highway through very thick woods there are bound to be deer or coyotes so driving 120 mph in the middle of the night isn't the best idea. i've seen a few NASTY crashes with dead deer (along with dead drivers) not too far away leading me to believe they were involved. not a pretty site.

i'm glad you are safe and so is the deer and no matter how cautiously anyone drives you get close encounters. was driving my infiniti m45 sport a few years back in canada going pretty fast on a wide open highway where i figured there were no animals and a coyote darted across the highway and thank god that car had superb handling and tires because with the severe maneuver i did to avoid hitting it going about 100 or so i would have probably ended up 100 feet off the side of the road in a ditch.

be safe people.

I hit a deer, well the deer actually hit my new Accord coupe. 595 miles on it. The damn thing shot out of the woods on a back road at full speed, right out of some thick brush and creamed the right fender, hood, grille, bumper and headlight assembly. I had the car less than two weeks. My shop had it for almost a month.
$6500 in damage. Sickening! Thankfully, my guy can realy paint and it looks good. I got it back yesterday. It happened so fast I couldn't react. The second I saw him was the same second he hit me. I like to have a fighting chance. Not this time, though.

Buy the boys on the security team a case of Sam Adams. They may have saved your life. I'm with you, there are plenty of tick infested forest rats. A few less won't drive them to extinction anytime soon.

We lived in central PA for a few years and the deer population was incredible despite the fact that PA hunters shot about 300,000 of the buggers per year. If you're killing >300K/yr and there are still about 40,000 deer/car collisions (PA statistic), how many of the damned things can there be?

Now, we live in Fairfield County, CT and they seem just as abundant. We have the hoofed rodents in our neighborhood too. And we're a suburb of New York City fer cryin out loud.

Anyway, a quote I read from an interview with an insurance industry spokesperson stated that most deer collisions occur from late Oct to Dec when Bambi is migrating and looking for love in all the wrong places. They also stated that statistically, more than 50% of collisions occur in the seven hours between 5PM and midnight. So, look out when driving home from the office late in the 4th quarter.

Warren,

A nearby community here is now debating on new (limited) bow hunting laws on these city pests.

Perhaps now is the perfect time to get those carbon fiber mirrors you always wanted (?)

As said before - Glad you're okay! rehile
