Default Hit rev limiter and have a question

I was going up a hill and hit the rev limiter. This is the first time that I have done this. I expected that if I hit the limiter I would actually be able to feel the fuel cutting out, but I couldn't feel any difference. I just saw the red part of the tachometer flash three times. Is this normal? Should I be able to feel it when I hit the limiter? Does hitting the limiter in this manner have the possibility of hurting the car?

As you can imagine, I'm having some trouble shifting near the limit without looking down at the tachometer. In most cars, you can feel it when you're near the limit because the engine starts to scream "you're about to tear me apart", but the engine in my S2000 is so smooth that it is difficult to tell audibly. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I might better be able to tell when to shift without looking down at the gauges.

When I got home I checked the oil (after 10 minutes) and was down one X. I also happened to check the air filter and noticed that there was what felt like a little oil on the plastic part of the filter right around where it attaches down in that hole. Any ideas where this oil came from?

You didn't hit the rev limiter. If you did you'd know it.

When you hit the limiter your car feels like you hit a brick wall. You didn't hit it.

You actually shifted perfectly. Nothing to worry about.

As everyone is saying, you shifted perfectly- it will flash red three times, then cut the fuel. A split second later and you would have felt the limiter.

If you have a hard time glancing down to see the tach, a shift light won't be any better. At least, with an audible indicator, you can keep your eyes on the road where it should be at moments like that.
