Default Hit by a taxi cab...

...that's right. I was pushing my way (slowly) through the gridlock at Houston and Hudson streets, when a cabbie tried to squeeze behind my car. He traded paint with the lower left rear corner (all on the plastic bits fortunately). Unfortunately, it looks like his insurance company doesn't answer their phones or return calls. Their address is on 7th Ave. so tomorrow, I'm going down there to push a few people around.

Did I mention that I ing hate cabs and the foreign runts that drive them? Does anyone have any experience with forcing an unwilling insurer to act on my claim? Remember, I am a lawyer, and a member of the NY bar. I guess I could sue them eventually. What I'd rather do is run the claim through Geico and force Geico to subrogate to get my deductible back. But my past experience with Geico is that if they ever do subrogate, they pocket the money for themselves and I never get any of it. Between the cabbies, the taxi and limo commission, the cabbie's insurance company and my own insurance company, there are a lot of people to despise here.

Grrrrrr...my car's first real accident. Okay, not such a bad one, but *still*.

Sorry to hear, so the damage is just to the lower rear bumper? Did you get a police report or just trade information? Unfortunately since NY is a no-fault state, I doubt you will get back 100% of your deductible.

go through his insurance co. I wouldn't alert geico just yet. I went through the same thing here when someone hit my car. Basically (like you said) if I went through Geico I would have had to pay my deductable. Those cabbies have good insurance you better believe it, just hunt them down. I never heard NY is a no fault state... funny, I've been found at fault for quite a few accidents when I lived in NY...

The only nice thing about leaving Manhattan for the New Jersey suburbs was leaving the cabbies behind. I don't miss the cabbies at all. I miss everything else.

taxi drivers have no respect for others, they try to squeeze in some of the most ridiculous areas just to save a couple seconds from their trip. btw, race has nothing to do with it. i've also seen caucasion cabbies drive very badly too...that "foreign runts" statement was not necessary.

Trust me it is. The wife is a magnet for traffic accidents.
