Default honda dealer service practice?

Hi,

I am due to oil change of my S.

I asked my bro to buy an oil filter from the dealer for me. (i was at work, couldn't get out before they close).

the dealer told my bro that they dont have the oil filter for s2000 in stock. but they have the oil filter for other honda model that would fit the s2000 block. but the oil filter is smaller.

so my bro called me. asked me if i want that. I said no. and was a little bit surprised that the dealer would just trying to push sale by doing so.

this lead me to another qusetion. what if i dont do the oil change myself and let them do it. when they dont have the right oil filter that's for the s2000. would they just throw in somethign that fits?

The dealer will just grab the closest match. They don't care about your car.

I make it a matter of policy to
* go to a dealer I trust. Actually, I don't really trust dealers.
* go to a dealer that hasn't screwed me over or wrecked my car yet.
* buy the PCX filter and crush washer over the parts counter,
* have them hand it to me so I can see it's the right model number,
* take the oil filter to an oil change place I trust. I don't trust dealers.
* hand them both the oil filter and a brand new crush washer.
* I tell them I want the old crush washer, and
* I stand near enough the car that I can see them remove the old filter and put the new one on.
* Immediately go back to the dealer to buy another PCX filter to keep in the car's toolkit

If you skip any steps, they will take shortcuts.

Yes, I'm paranoid. The question is whether I'm paranoid enough.

I'm not sure I would trust an oil change place either. Buy a Fumoto valve and do the changes yourself. They take about 5 minutes and don't require you sliding under the car. 100% assurance the job is done right.

I think I know what the Fumoto is but how do you open the valve without getting under the car.?

You can reach it from under the hood. But you still have to scoot a pan under your car to catch the used oil.

here, let me amend your list to display how i would take care of it:

* go to dealer and purchase PCX filter
* change oil myself
* no fuss, no muss

if there's any **** ups, i can only blame myself

^I was going to say the same thing If you are that paranoid, get your "dirty clothes" on one weekend, and do it yourself in 20min and save the money and "paranoia"

It pays to see the underneath of your car each oil change. You sometimes notice damage, leaks etc. that may otherwise go unnoticed.
