Honda Research
I find myself continually having this conversation and not able to find any answers.
I'm simply looking for the actual reasons behind these Honda engineering decisions. I certainly don't hear any of these issues with NSX owners. Being that they are made side by side, i'm intrigued to find out.
In no way, does it make me like my S any less. But it makes me wonder on a $45K CDN plus car ?
Does anyone know why the Honda designers
1.-excluded the electronic passenger door lock ?
2.-excluded a onboard clock ?
3.-made a cup holder that makes shifting awkward
4.-removed any door storage
5. -installed carpet on in and around the console
6. -the purpose of the netting beside the passenger foot
I would really appreciate any objective help to this manner
thanks

I think the main issues here are cost savings, actually. However, when we met with the Honda engineers in Tokyo last year, we asked the question about the lack of clock in the 00 and 01 models. I don't recall who asked, but the question was met with laughter and smiles from the engineers. Their answer to this question is actually pretty simple. This car is meant to be a driver's car, and that means to be focused on the driving experience. Therefore the presence of a clock would distract you from the experience. Which also explains the existence of the radio door.
But the other things you mentioned, IMO, are intended as cost savings and not necessarily design oversights or flaws...
Do a seach for the word "biblically" and that will pull up the thread which describes our trip to Tochigi and Tokyo last year...maybe that will provide you with greater insight into this and other things...

1) The human arm is long enough to reach over and unlock it with ease.
2) The radio has a clock, How many clocks do we need?
3) Use short cups, and bend your arm up slightly
4) I have door storage on MY2002, although very small
5) MY2002 has leather instead of carpet
6) Not on a MY2002

I use the cup holder for parking change. You must be awful good to be speeding down the road, shifting gears, pulling G's and drinking coffee. No one drinks in my car. The rest of the stuff might have been weight reduction. Where do you stop adding features? Each costs and weighs. One of the goals of this car was to be as light as possible.
P.S. If I was to add anything, I would have the heads up display on the windshield that my GTP has. Never look down and still see speed, rpm and stereo options.

Please remember, this car is designed to be a light weight, razor crisp handling, sports car.
I am sure light weight is the key here, to think they forgot about items is absurd. Look at the NSX in 1991, had all the comfort items.
IMO, they could have made it lighter with a non power top for example.
This is not a 4155 pound SL 55 AMG, light weight gives a feel and response to a car that cannot be equaled with 4000 pounds.
Look at the performance of a 250 hp 2200 pound Mugen car, wow.

BTW, my wife's Odyssey works the same as my S2000, even resetting the maintenance lights, etc.
