My "two cents":

I've had the car for nearly two months now and I'm enjoying it more and more every day. I don't have the luxury of having a "daily commuter" so I have the "misfortune" (joke) of driving to and from work. I agree with the comments others have made; the most enjoyment I've had with the car is in its handling. I didn't get it to street race or for the pure "off the line" acceleration. Once you get up into VTEC range, though, it IS pretty fun...

No regrets at this point!

I second all the comments already made and I would REALLY recommend that you sit in one at a dealership before you decide this is the car for you, it's the tightest automotive seat I've ever experienced and I'm a thin guy (170 lbs., 6' tall) in his mid-thirties. FYI to those who already have one, I found that tilting the seat back one notch makes for the greatest comfort. With the seat back at it's "normal" angle, that is full upright, I don't find the seat comfortable.

I think I may have experienced the shift grind once in a rapid acceleration situation, but in my normal driving I don't incur the factors that seem to produce the grind and so I don't have a problem with it, but then I only have 5000 on the odo.

All that and be ready for a disappointing amount of torque if you're expecting anything like what your Vette does.

If you drive a Miata you will fit in the S. I got in a friends miata last year and it took two people and the jaws of life to get me out of the passengers seat. Absolutely no space with the top up. I am 6'4, 200+ lbs and fit the S fine.

I was watching a recording I made of "Motorvision" a while back. Motorvision is on Speedvision and is a European (German?) car show dubbed into English.

There were comparing an S2000 vs a Boxter S.

A couple of questions:

In some of the photos it looked like the S2000 has headlight washer jets. Is this true? Or maybe only on the Euro models?

They also made mention of the S2000 not cruising well or words to that effect. Is the 6th speed a true over-drive? If you have cruising at say 70-80mph how many revs does that equal? I got the IDEA that they may mean that the revs are real high at cruising speed.

Also, when cruising in 6th do you usually have to downshift to accelerate/pass?

Hey, it also occured to me that if I got an S2000 the motor would only be 200cc larger than the Honda V-twin engine in my MOTORCYCLE !

Thanks!

Hi Dennis,

I've just found the bit of paper I made my original purchase short list on in July. One of the bits of data I collected was the power to weight ratio for each car (bhp per tonne) ...

TVR Chimaera 4.5 = 273
Boxster S = 195
S2000 = 191
Boxster = 179
Z3 3.0 = 173
Lotus Elise = 159
Audi TT 225 = 159
Alfa Romeo Spider 3.0 = 155

I took all of the above for extended test drives except for the TVR (too unreliable and no local dealer), the Lotus (too basic and impractical for every day use) and the Boxter S (way too big a price premium for not too much more power)

I am now the proud owner of an S2000

Just my experience

Pete

A local high-end used car dealer has a 2000 S2k (dark silver/red, 5k miles) in their showroom, so I went by at lunch today (the in C5) to sit in it. As luck would have it, they also had a 2nd generation Miata w/leather also in their showroom. The S2k is a bit tight, but probably livable. The Miata seems to have shrunk since I owned mine - perhaps I have grown since then....

The most noticable thing was the lack of thigh room in the Miata - ouch.

On the S2k -

You have to be a contortionist to get the key in!
How do reach the "glove box" while seated in the car (being a contortionist comes in handy) ?
The trunks had more room than I thought.
Wish it had a tilt/telescope wheel.

The C5 for sure has more driver and trunk room....

I didn't get to drive it, they have it all cleaned up in the showroom. I guess I could have lied and said I wanted to buy it, but I don't like to lie. I did tell them to call me if they got it out on the road

If anyone is interested in this lightly used car, I can get a cash price for you. Their business is kinda slow right now and they might be ready to deal.
