Is honda slacking on the quality of some parts?
First off I have owned 5 hondas and I will always be a owner. I have never had quality problems untill I got the S2000. I know every car has it's flaws here and there but I have recently noticed a few on my car that are getting worse. First was the top which I replace my self about a year ago. Second is my rear view mirror, the thing rattles like a rattle snake and the mirrored film is peeling off on the inside of the mirror. The third thing is my headlight housing, the black paint on the inside is starting to bubble up. I know a lot of problems are due to inproper care but these things to me are strictly quality issues. Other than that the car is pretty mecanically sound with no other problems.
I am not trying to bash honda and say everything that rolls off the assembly line sucks from the bottom up, in side out, I still love my car and am a bit of a perfectionest when it comes to it. I think honda is still one of the only car manafactures that builds a good solid long last quality car, but I do think some of the parts they are manafacturing or having manafactured for their newer cars are a little bit cheeper and less quality than what has been seen in the past. I am car shopping currently and am looking pretty hard at the Acura TL. So plaese don't take me the wrong way on this one.

My rear view mirror shakes as well. The headlight housing I noticed had just a small little mark right under the painted part. Not sure why its there but its so unnoticeable. I don't really sweat the small stuff. The car has been good.
You have a seven year old car in a hot climate, you have to expect some things to wear over time. I notice you didn't mention that the engine has any issues, or any major thing for that matter, just some trim that's worn over the years and isn't perfect any more. I don't want to say your issues aren't real, but it not like you own a six month old car, so titling your thread "Honda slacking on quality" seems a bit extreme.
I asked myself the same question. Went to purchase my new S MY07, 4 S's on the lot. All 4 S's had a back bumper defect on the passanger side. Spoke with General Manager, he stated all S's have that defect. WTF?
I know the car is a 01 w/30k, and the climate I live in is warmer, but that to me is no reason for these issues. If that was the cause of my problems I think everyone From Sothern California to Sothern Flordia would have simular issues. With the headlights, the bulbs put out much more heat than the Hawaii tempatures, I figured it was caused buy the bulbs. Overall the car is pretty sound, and I have not had any other issues. The car has been great and I hope to keep it around for a long time.

yeah I noticed the rear bumper thing a little while back before I bought the car, its common unfortunately. also i have a small bubble or something right in the middle of my light housing, nothing anyone else would notice. I still love it, if the headlights get too bad ill throw in some ap2's or if the rear bumper bugs me too much im sure it can be fixed.

I guess, I'm a little lucky with these cases. I dont have the bubble in the headlight, nor do I have any issues with my rearview mirror shaking which would probably drive me crazy. Unfortunately, I do have the rear bumper thing
. All in all, I'm fine with it as long as my car is running well.
