Default Honda Tuning Mag 2004 S2000

For what it is worth, the latest edition of Honda Tuning Magazine reported that the 2004 S2000 will get I-VTEC.

What exactly would that do for the S2000?

more low end torque. Also the i-vtec doesn't have the "kick in" zone like the old vtec's do.

^ I think if Honda wanted the s2k to have i-vtec, they could have done it with the MY04's? Also, the engine is unique as it is, they went to new heights to make the 2.0L vtec perform like that, i just don't think they will change it.

i've read from somewhere that the f20 is supposed to be the bridge between traditional vtec and i-vtec. that is why the power curve is more linear (without the sudden "jump" in power) than the traditional vtec engines such as the b16a, h22a, etc... anyone who's ever driven a civic, integra, or prelude with the vtec engines will notice that those engine have a more noticeable "kick" when the engine switches cam lobes compare with our f20.

btw, i-vtec is a good thing and it's about time for the s2000. most other auto manufacturers today use variable valve timing as well as variable camgear phasing to max out torque and power throughout the whole rpm range. the vtec in our f20 is pretty much yesterday's technology. also, some manufacturers have already adopted variable intake length and size to control intake air speed to further max out low rpm torque and power. the s2000 CAN be improved, and incorporating i-vtec technology is a step in the right direction.

^ I still think that if they wanted it to be i-vtec, it woulda been i-vtec when it first came out. This is why i'm betting that the MY04 will not be i-vtec. We shall see.

i-vtec did not debute in the U.S. till 2002 with the rsx type-s. i'm guessing at the time the s2000 debuted in late 1999, i-vtec was still in the r&d stage and had not been perfected enough to be used in production vehicles. we are now in late 2003, and i-vtec has not only been applied to production vehicles, but it is a superior technology to traditional vtec, so i don't see why honda would not incorporate this technology with the new engine that has been rumored to be in the 2004 S. but like you said, anything we say now is nothing more than speculation, but to me, it makes no sense for one of honda's flagship vehicle to incorporate an older and inferior technology, especially when the s2000 is supposed to be a statement of latest technology...
