Hondacare -- A few questions
I do not if my suspicion is right or wrong but I did purchase a NFR '00 w/ 10,900 miles on Saturday. I was unable to bring it home because it was snowing in Boston, I have little experience with rwd--especially a sports car, had the summer tires on, and just did not want to risk it.
So we (dad and I) in the financial office and he offers my this Hondacare warranty. I say I will have to think about it (what I mean is search on s2ki
) but I could not find my answer. He said it has to be purchased at the time of the sale or before I pick up the car. Is this true?
His prices were much higher than the prices I saw on here. I know hardtopguy sells them but I called his contact number and no one picked up. My father is really pushing me to get it since it's a 6 model years old sports car. I just do not want to pay $1200 for 1yr/12k miles or $1800 for 2yrs/24k.
Could I purchase it from hardtopguy, another dealer, or whomever? Thanks in advance

You can purchase it from Hardtopguy, or even better yet get an aftermarket one rather than the HondaCare one. The coverage is the same, generally better service, and about 1/2 the price. Just search the internet and get some quotes. Keep in mind though, one single mod and the entire thing can and probably will be canceled.
IMO, I would get the honda care.
Many aftermarket warranty companies have been going under lately and are spotty in terms of service. I know of many people who are stuck with useless warranties after the company goes under.
My experience with the aftermarket warranty companies as a repair shop is that they try to get out from paying claims and beat down the repair shop for labor rates and are slow to pay.

I do not plan on modding as of yet. Maybe next season (spr 07). I will do the clear corners and a little exterior/interior but no major mods such as gears, sc, etc. An intake isn't a big deal since it's easily swapped back for the stock airbox.
Thanks for the feedback. Hope to receive some more!
p.s. i just called a honda dealer near me and he offered me a 2yr/24k for $1095.
They love pulling numbers out of places it seems like.

if you so much as clear a headlight on that car, you can be denied warranty by honda care. aftermarket warranties are useless IMO if you modify the car in any single way. even then, if you're totally stock, they'll try to push some 'abuse' bullsh*t to void your warranty. seen this happen time and time and time again. do a search, and you'll see how OFTEN people get burned.

I have the hondacare extended warranty and it sucks. This thing doesn't cover anything. I suggest you save your money and use it when you need it. I can almost gaurantee regular maintanence will not cost you 1800 dollars in 2 years unless you need something major like a new head or a new engine in which case they won't cover that either.
On a side note BMW gives excellent service to those with extended warranties and will not care if you modify your car a little.

I like the get best price and ask other dealers to beat it method.
Wow, I did some searches and many people say this about Hondacare. Does anyone have any positive stories to tell? Usually good stories get left untold and negative stories are posted.
