... The manufacturers and the dealerships make money on offering and selling you limited warranties on those items that probably won't break. How else could they make money selling warranties...
... In my opinion the best thing you can do before you purchase the car is take the car to a reputable mechanic for a presale inspection.

If everyone bought extended warranty on anything, cars or appliances or electronics ..., and filled a claim for services, they would not make any profit, actually they could lose big money.
No extended warranty for anything I bought, except extended warranties up to 1 year offered by credit cards with no cost.

Does anyone have any good experiancese with third party companies? My credit union offers one and I think I'm going to look into what they offer. I figuree it has to be decent b/c otherwise the credit union would have an uproar (as its run by its members).
They're an East Coast company with serious banking back and own the majority of South East Toyota. They even cover dealer-installed super chargers in their platinum package.
There is nothing wrong with the Honda Care Extended Warranty. I recently mis-shifted my '02 and blew the motor. I bent a couple of valves and cracked part of my block. I was honest with the service advisor and told him what happened and the mods I had on my car. He said to take the intake and any other engine accessories off but I could leave the suspension and rims on. From there, I towed the car into the dealership.
My service advisor did a damn good job of dealing with Honda. Honda fought a little since I was doing my own synthetic oil changes and didn't have receipts. But in the end, they covered a brand new motor and the bill came out to $13,000. I actually hold the record at that dealership for the biggest bill. Good thing I didn't have to pay one penny. I couldn't be more pleased about my local dealership.
So I guess the comments about having any mods and the warranty not covering shit is the truth huh?

So, basically, what you are saying is that you and your dealer defrauded Honda Care out of $13,000.00 and now you are posting about this in a public forum?
Factory people monitor their respective popular forums, not to search out fraud cases, but to try to find problems ahead of time - things that may constitute a TSB or recall. If one of these factory people stumble upon a post or thread stating something that is not in the company's best interest, he/she may feel inclined to report the matter.
Just a friendly "have some caution" because it may not be yourself that gets in trouble, it could be that fantastic dealer that helped you work the system.

Ahh, the ever-so-classic "we are watching you" idea. That idea has been around since the beginning of internet forums.
I especially like the one about how cops monitor forums for street races and meets.

in fact, your dealership lied for you. if your dealership told honda that you missed a shift causing a mechanical overrev, then honda would have denied your claim regardless of whether you had mods or not. even a factory warranty would be denied if a missed shift ocurred causing a mechanical overrev.
so, unfortunately, your story has very little to no bearing on joe consumer.
