Hooks behind the passenger seat

What is the purpose of the 2 hooks behind the passenger seat in my 2002?

I have the one that Muz makes. Nice for keeping the odds and ends. It hooks on top and snaps in on the bottom

Remove them and you get 1 extra inch of leg room..
