I know this was covered before, but what I'm after is a replacement which does not require wiring changes. Just a bolt on replacement. I can live with less than a diesel air horn cardiac arrest horn, but I want something louder than stock.

The thing that causes the re-wiring is the added current draw. The Hella air and (dual disk) Supertones draws 12 amps. I think the original horn wire is 18 gauge, so anything under 10 amps will not require re-wiring. There is a post from Oz with a single disk Hella horn that would probably work.

wirejock,

I think at least three of us have done the replacement described here:

http://www.s2000online.com/forums/showthre...p?threadid=3450

Although I don't know how much juice those horns draw, I did test them by sounding them for a good ten seconds, with the brake lights on (they share the same circuit); no blown fuse.

They are significantly louder that the stock horn, and cooler sounding, although not frighteningly loud.

Hope that helps,

Ted

My advice is not to risk it by installing two horns unless you run heavier wiring for the supply with a relay. With that said, it is difficult to find a solution with one horn that is louder than what comes with the car.

Thanks, if I get some time I'll test the amp draw on the stock horns just for info. Then It would be easy to run a test on the replacements using some jumper wire to a battery.

The stock horn is as wimpy as they come.. I think I have actually seen it listed as a 2 amp unit!
