I don't like the sound of the stock horns. I have seen the Hella horns available on the web but haven't heard them.

Any experience with them or others?

Thx
Bigal

Just installed Hella twin-tones. Sound much louder. I feel safer knowing SUV drivers can hear me.

This reminds me. I had the horns installed by the stereo installer. He installed a new wire w/ fuse off the battery and the included relay. I think it looks cheesy to have that extra wiring.

Anyone know if it is possible to install the horns using just the stock relay? Also, can I use the unused fog light fuse socket instead of the add-on one?

i believe that the stock wiring can't handle the power needed in case you need to step on the brakes and honk. i can't find the tech document on s2000fans.com for some reason...

and i'm the VP?

The links are in the S2K FAQs section of S2Ki fanclub. Here they are:

Airhorns https://www.s2ki.com/faqs/faq_airhorn.php

Hella Horns https://www.s2ki.com/faqs/faq_horn.php

BTW, a relay is recommended for horns that draw a lot of current. So far, so good with the airhorns on the stock circuit in my car, but I did swap the 10A fuse for one rated at 20A (per instructions from the manufacturer).

TO Coraldoc:

Do you mean to say you used the existing
stock wires/relay and just replaced the fuse from 10A to 20A?

What kind of horn did you install?

Thanks!

I put in a pair of Hella horns (not the air horns) without the relay. I also swapped the fuse. It may not be best practice, but it works, even with the brake light on.

What are disadvantages of using the stock wiring/relay and changing the fuse to 20A?

___________

Blow the horn, your car bursts into flames, aluminum hood melts, tires start burning (dull, smokey and stinky) and then you fight back the tears.
