Horrible Noise at Startup
I had the dealer do the 7,500 mile service at 7,700 miles. When cranking the car to start it two days later it made a HORRIBLE knocking noise as soon as it fired up. I shut it down immediately and checked the oil - full. I restarted the car and the noise again started and continued for about 8 to 10 seconds and then faded. It sounded like the loudest cold diesel I ever heard (much like the Yanmar in my sailboat). The car had been burning about half a quart per 1,000 miles before the service. Earlier it had been burning 1 quart per thousand miles. What does everyone think?

no idea.....I wonder if they left some wrench in there and it fell out? Knocking, if they drained the engine entirely, maybe it took that long to get oil pumped back up into the engine..pretty weird though...
I've just returned from the dealer. We confirmed that oil is still full 400 miles later and the engine is still as quiet as when new. The dealer's theory is that during the oil and filter change air was introduced into the hydraulic cam chain tensioner, then the cam chain clattered upon starting until the oil pressure was pumped back up in the tensioner. The tech had not ever actually seen this happen in a Honda, but he had seen it in a Toyota with a hydraulic tensioner.
I guess we can only wait and see at this point.

I have had a faint erratic chain-like rattle (sounds like very small bolt in a can) at cold startup since day one and is currently at the dealership for a diagnosis. The sound lasts for a minute or so and goes away. I will post back their findings.
