How about a spell checker for these UBB's???
Easy Strike, I could find a couple errors in your response if I wanted to. I think a spell-check would be a great feature.
I was an English minor in college, I appreciate the concern for what is the apparent lack of common knowledge. Consider though, that this is an informal gathering,
no place that you really need to be prim and proper at all times. Decency is nice but I don't think we need to have a dictionary, thesaurus and updated copy of the AP Stylebook be mandatory handouts.

Probably not. But decent spelling and punctuation does make it a lot easier to read posts. I think that Strike was just lamenting the fact that spelling is becoming a lost art these days - a sentiment that I share.
I agree. My spelling and grammer is for the most part terrible on this forum. Usually because I am trying to reply a quick mental flood in the form of the written word. Then I hit send. I guess that if I just proof read my posts first I wouldn't have this problem. I hate seeing in my post "fro" instead of for..Urrrghh!
Here's my rant:
I'm not two fussed about spelling
I couldn't give too hoots about gramma.
But I think one lesson we could learn about communication is that the majority of the skill is in encoding the message in a form our intended audience can decode. Communication is a transfer, not a discharge.
By way of example, what is the difference between these three titles:
Turbo for S2000
Turbo for S2000?
Turbo for S2000!
The first one means nothing!
The second one is short for "Is there a turbo for the S2000" and the last one is short for "Holy crap, now there's a turbo for the the already awesome S2000 F20C donk that will blow the socks off most Yank tanks. Sign me up, here's my money!

As long as I can understand the context of the message, I don't concern myself with the grammer and spelling. I'd rather encourage the exchange of information and profit by it rather than chase away a potential respondent with a valid reply. What if a member has an important message to all of us, but chooses not to post to avoid potential embarrassment by others. Let's encourage everyone to feel comfortable here. Yes, it would be good to at least proof a post before sending it, but I'm not going to reply to a post just to Nit-Pic it's spelling. Here is a trick. Read it backwards first. You'll catch alot more mistakes. A spell checker won't catch a word that's spelled right but used wrong. Pubic and public will both pass, but one may be inappropriate in the wrong context.
