Update Plugs ARE different on the backs of the clusters.....I have supporting pics, these pics should also put any psychical fit issues to bed as well as they look identical in size even down to psychical assembly.

(note on pics: I am borrowing these from an ebay host/auction I do not have my own pic host so they may go down. If some one has a host feel free to host and post...it rhymes)

00-03

04-07(? on the 06 and 07)

This lead me to recheck part numbers on the sub harness that each car uses and they are different not the same as my previous post stated.

In this diagram you would need number 3 for the respective car you are swapping into. Looks to be the entire dash harness, which makes you wonder if any other plugs changed as well. Previously I had thought it was 5 which part numbers from year to year match on. This however I am 100% sure is correct as it is called the instrument harness.

Part numbers are
00-03: 32117-S2A-A01
04-05: 32117-S2A-A02

This is a pretty labor intensive project (only due to the dash or splice factors), I have done dash wire harness swaps in some of my old CRX's. Other than pulling the dash its easy! However the cost of this project is now well out of the leauge of something I would want to tackle. The harness alone is $300 bucks! I would think it would be possible to splice in the Ap2 cluster if you were to also get the plugs with it. I am just a picky type who would swap the harness prior to hacking stock wiring.

I've always wondered why no one has done it yet ...

err, we Brits have mph....

I'd like to see this swap happen.
I like the refined look of the sweeping revs on the AP2 cluster...and if it weren't a JDM or EURO verson, would a USDM cluster with the 8k redline also work? which should make it easier for us in the US to get?...just that we'd end up taking the revs through the red until it hit 9000.

As long as you swap the dash harenss I can think of no reason why a USDM cluster wouldn't work (since the ECU would control the rev limit not the cluster). I am pulling this out of air and based on motor swaps and cluster swaps from older cars so it may be differnt in the more specific world of OBD 2 but I don't see why. I just personally wouldnt feel to good about it due to not knowing where my revs are when you are floating that close to the limiter and the known issue of AP1's weak retainers if you ping off the revlimiter too offten.

I will still look for a EDM/JDM cluster, you just won't see me throwing it in anytime soon after acquiring it while I save for a new harness.

the ap1 and ap2 clusters have different plugs and wiring at the back.. trust me i've seen them both in real life....

the clock doesnt require a loom, it's built into the cluster logic, and will simply take the power supply from the cluster itself.

it can be done, just would be a lot easier if you can get the plugs for the back of the ap2 cluster as well, and then make up your own wiring loom etc... just make up an adapter loom to join the back of the ap2 cluster to your ap1 dash loom...

That is a tight mod, compared to the Digital Gauges (forgot if it was Mugen or Amuse).
