how do u know if u need an alignment?
It's good to get one every time you change your tires as well. Some places offer a lifetime allignment fee. That way you can get it checked out whenever you want without paying every time. Real good if you go through tires a lot or go to the track a lot.
Find a good long, straight road. Point the steering wheel straight, then let go of the wheel. If the car consistently "pulls" to one side or the other, you need an alignment. This is the easiest way to tell.
Check your tires for inconsistent wear as well, or if the car responds irregularly or unexpectedly to bumps in the road.

The wheel/car pulling is one way to tell, but it's less conclusive. Take into account tire pressures, pavement, or the cars natural tendency to pull in one direction more than others. find enough road and you can drive around in a circle without touching the steering wheel. I've found that alignment issues are more pronounced under braking, given a good stomp on the brakes without engaging the ABS can tell you alot as well.
I have heard some people mention getting a UK spec alignment. Does anyone know what the benefits of this are?
