If it is winter and cold outside, I start it up, it idles for as long as it takes to put on my driving gloves, then off I go. I don't stress it, I just stay under 3K. I also never turn on any heat until my engine is at full warm, five bars. When I first got my machine, I was pulling out of my drive way and here comes some kid behind me over the hill and up my pipes. I tried to move away and recalled that the engine would not allow me to rev real high. I cannot reecall what the RPM limit was but I reached it real soon while the engine was cold. My experience is that I a rev limiting action occured when the engine was cold. Luckly, I have never had to do that ever again. My machine warms in about five minutes. That is just about the amount of time I need to get to the acceleration on ramp to the interstate. If it is warmer weather, I simply start it up and go, keeping beneath 3K rpms.

when it 2 degrees out i want it to warm up as soon as possible.
it's too freeking cold to sit and wait for this chunk of metal to warm up.
theres plenty fish in the barrel. if this one dies, i'll go fishing.
i dont invest my emotions into a machine, so i'll let it suffer for the sake of my comfort.

as long as it has oil in it and i dont hammer it until it's at temp, i dont really worry at all. if modifry got 167k out of an engine that was supercharged for a good part of its life, i dont think shifting at 4-5k when its cool is going to break anything. and if it shortens the life of the engine from 254k miles to 253k, i'll pay that price.

I think the AP1 only has 6 bars, and normal operating temperature is 3 bars. I start the car, wait for the air pump to shut off (roughly 30 seconds), and keep it under 3k until a few minutes with all 3 water temp bars on. Oil takes longer to heat up than water. As someone mentioned already, sitting idle doesn't bring the trans and diff up to temperature. Both of which have more problems than the F20/22.

I let it hit 3 bars (AP1) at night leaving work, and try to do the same in the morning before class.

Start it and drive(at moderate rpms of course). An engine that warms up quicker is a better one.

I just "granny drive" it until I get three bars. Then, it's good to go.

OK, last night I tried to keep it at/under 3K while warming up, and it felt all wrong. I had to go all the way up to 5th in a 35mph zone. This also meant that I had to quickly row through the gears to get there. 4-5K felt a lot better.

How do you warm up your beater? It's the same for the S or the M (S&M?), which do not, by the way, have some sort of delicate made of glass engines that need to be babied more than any other. RTFM.

But then again, what do I know - it's 32C outside - my engine is always warm

Turn it on, pull out of the garage, lock the garage door (takes about 15 seconds), drive away.

The manual clearly mentions to start driving immediatly after turning the vehicle on as it will INCREASE your engine life. No idea why people would wait till 3 bars to drive to be "safe"
