lol, I was just joking. Sometimes I don't even mean to hit VTEC, it just sorta does it on it's own. Alot of times I feel like the car is driving me around!

Like when there's a civic with a huge spoiler next to it at a light. It screams out "Let me at it! I'll show this little ricer.... I'll blow his doors off!" And i'm like "Nooo, not now, let's just take it easy."

Then when the light turns green, for some odd reason, the car just takes control, and I black out for a second. The next thing I know I'm looking in my rear view mirror and I can still see the civic in the distance trying to catch up. Then I glance down at the cluster of guages and it's showing a VTEC engagmenet in third. I'm like "Whoa girl. Slow down!" But she just won't listen!

Some of you guys shift at 5000 for regular driving? When I'm not driving aggressive, I rev til about 2500-3000 rpms per shift, and I can get a little higher than 260 miles per tank.

Just to clarify; the blinking red light is the shift light? I always thought it was the fuel cutoff. I remember I was racing this car in the freeway and I forgot to shift and the thing blinked for like 3 seconds before I realized it, I thoiught I screwed up my engine.

I usually shift @ 8200-8800 due to the power band dropping after that.... I think this is a good move?

8200 is way too low for these motors if you're squeezing time out of them.

Where you shift is all about the powerband on a vehicle

[QUOTE=mosesbotbol,Dec 14 2005, 09:38 AM]Shifting at red line doesn't make for smooth shifts if that is what you are after.

So when it flashes it didn't hit the rev limmiter yet? I thought when it flashed it was saying "too late buddy, try again next time" I never actually pushed it past 7900-8000 RPM (MY05), I didn't want to hurt my baby!
Exactly. The flashing is a form of "shift light" that says "shift NOW!"

The cars have a rev limiter that will save you if you ignore the flashing tach or miss a shift (though it won't help if you miss a shift and over-rev because of too low a gear for your speed). Go ahead and run the car to the redline and shift *AT* redline; if you hit it just right you'll see the tach flash as you shift. The car CAN take it.

(if 9000 rpm can be considered general)....
LOL, INDEED!!!

In general, I shift between 3k and 6k.

I hope nobody's talking about shifting when driving in town, in traffic.

On the 1-2 shift this will drop you out of VTEC. Better to rev to redline (if you're trying to go fast, not just in normal driving ).

There is no connection between the RPM's being turned and the smoothness of the shift.
Actually hitting the rev limiter, though, is very "unsmooth". It unsettles the whole car. You should shift before you hit it. How soon before all depends on what you are trying to do.
