So when it flashes it didn't hit the rev limmiter yet? I thought when it flashed it was saying "too late buddy, try again next time" I never actually pushed it past 7900-8000 RPM (MY05), I didn't want to hurt my baby!
No, if you actually hit the rev limiter you'll know it... hehe...

I try to shift before red line. I have read that peak HP is before 9,000 so I go to the next gear before the drop off is too great and try to get back to the peak.

Supposedly you can gain back the 20 hp after 8350 with the VAFC. 00/01 owners typically get 10-15 midrange, 10 peak, and 15-20 after 8350 due to their very conservative ECU tune.
whats vafc?

Even moreso if you're running FI.

Actually hitting the rev limiter, though, is very "unsmooth". It unsettles the whole car. You should shift before you hit it. How soon before all depends on what you are trying to do.
Hitting the rev limiter, is by definition, NOT smooth.
(It's not always a driver error, but usually ... )

It's not just about how much torque the car makes, it's at what RPM. So if our engine (im just throwing out random numbers) makes 150 LB-FT of torque at 6,000 RPM, but only 140 LB-FT at 7,000, the engine is still making more "power" at 7,000 since it's doing it that much faster. That's why you see horsepower climb all the way to 7,800 RPM (AP2) even though peek torque stopped along time ago.

You also have to take into consideration the time it takes to shift. If you're doing a 0-60 run and you shift when you reach peak torque, you may have to shift 4 times before you hit 60, when someone redlining their car (not neccisarily an S2K) only has to shift twice.

All I see are red streaks from me driving so damn fast I have no time to look for red lights on my dash before I shift.

Shift from the feel of the motor.

That's funny. Try running to redline in the first three gears every time you have enough road available. Don't call to ask for help posting bail.

Not really a good idea with the F20C (especially with FI), because by the time you feel a drop in power the rev limiter already is at work.

VAFC = Apex'i Air/Fuel Controller

It allows you to change the VTEC crossover point and add/subtract fuel within your powerband.
