How important is a "State of the Art" spray booth?

Skilled painter is the most important, cannot stress this enough, but a good booth is also important but not nearly as vital as the painter.
The main differences between booths has more to do with the shop's production capacity than how well they're able to do their jobs. Whatever benefit a downdraft booth can give over a side draft booth can be made up with the shop denib and polishing and then wet sanding. Also, the debri entering the paint typically happens while the paint is drying, not the spraying, so they may have the most badass paint booth in the world but dry it outside. But a good downdraft booth will minimize things like orange peel, but it;ll still be very noticeable and will require wet sanding anyway.
Referrals is always key, and try to see some finished work, most reputable shops will have some cars ready for delivery.
