Default How long did it take you guys...

Hey everyone, I just went over my 600 mile breakin period (I went over 6K a few times when not concentrating) and now I can go to red line. I went out yesterday to an autocross event and watched but didn't get to stay long enough to watch the S2K's go round. On the way there and the way back I attempted to VTEC numerous times, and did, but felt very uncomfortable with the rpm all the way up there (and since I have the 05, I can't imagine another 1K added to the redline).

So, how long did it take you guys to get used to getting to and holding the rpm way up there? I have had a few sport bikes so I don't know why I am having such an issue, I guess cause I have never driven a car that didn't redline where the fun starts in this car. Tell me I am crazy and that the engine can handle extended fun in the high rpm range please. BTW, I have checked about 10 times during break in for oil consumption and there has been none at all, not even a single notch...

Took me 3-4 runs up to redline to get used to the higher pitched sound.

I hear yah. Don't feel bad it's very different. Do it a few times and you get used to it. And be carefull.

I remember first time I VTEC the thing(@ around 650 miles), I hit the rev limiter in 1st and 2nd(tried to run with 911 Cabrio), didn't try again till 2-300 miles later. I felt that the car(MY03) was not stable at the front end, and it was pretty handful.

Go ahead and open her up, you're not gonna hurt her. You just have to keep glancing at the techo, pedal to the metal, shift at third blink, your'll land in VTEC heaven again..every gear, and this sucker let you do this 6 times!

Now that when I'm addicted to it, I kindda miss that extra 800rpm, though, redline come too soon!

a few rev limiter bounces and it was all good after that. only time i get scared at high revs is when im racing, other than that i can take it up to 9 and have no trouble at all.

Its not really the sound that bothers me, its that my bank account is 30K or more smaller than before, and I don't want to blow the thing up. I can't get it into my head that the engine is made to be rev'd hard and that it can take it. The sound and feeling of it is awesome, but I back off very quickly as I can just see me fighting with Honda to get a new engine. They say the engine is made to do high revs, and then from the sounds of it, say that you abused it so they won't help out.

I would rev to 10k if I could!!!! Never once worried about it! I had a GSR a few years back and that rev'd to 8k.
