How low?
Hello everyone...
I just wanted to make a post to get everyone's opinion on what they think is a nice drop with coilovers. I'm on my second set of Teins and I am debating on how low I should set my car. My car is daily driven, but i plan to take it to a track event sometime in the near future and maybe an occasional canyon run. When i had the Tein CS coilovers on my car I set it to about a 1-finger gap all around, but i would get some rubbing on my front tires during sharp fast turns and large bumps in the road. So, I adjusted them to about a 1.5-finger gap and that solved all of the problems.
Now, I have the Tein RA's which are twice as stiff as the Tein CS, which will allow me to lower the car even more without having rubbing problems with the 10k spring rates on all four corners. I have 17" Volk CE28N's which have almost perfect offsets for the S2000. I want to have a nice looking drop with not too much wheel gap but also have enough room so that if i do track my car and push it hard I will not have any rubbing problems with my rims and tires.
Do you guys think that i should keep my car lowered to where there is only a 1-finger gap front and back or maybe something a little higher like a 1.5-2 finger gap all around? I know this should be my opinion but i just want to hear some of your suggestions on what's better as far as keeping the handling in spec and not throwing off the balance by having the car lowered too much.

P.S. If you have these wheels and some other setup, please give me your input on how you drive and if you ever encounter any rubbing problems being as low as you are.

I personally lower my cars to between a 1-1.5 finger gap. If I can't fit a finger between the tire and fender, that's too low. If I can fit two fingers between the tire and fender, that's too much.
But that's how I like it.
Interested to find out how you like the Tein RAs. I'm thinking about going that direction. I'm worried the Tein CS would be too soft.

The main reason i upgraded to the Tein RA's was because i found the Tein CS too soft for my liking. If your car is a pure daily driver and you have stock wheels, you can enjoy lowering it with the CS for comfort and you wouldn't have to worry about rubbing. But since i have 17" volk ce28n's my front tires would rub against the fender lining on really hard sharp turns where the car would tilt to one side and make contact with the tire, and that was with a 1-finger gap and the coilovers were set to full stiff. When i raised the car up i had no more problems with rubbing.
I've only had the Tein RA's on the car for 3days but i can tell you that i like them a lot more already. I plan on taking my car to a track day soon so now i don't have to worry about the tires rubbing because these are plenty firm enough, and i only have them set at 6front and 10rear which Tein recommends.
If you plan on taking your car to the track/auto-x/canyon runs i would go with the RA's, if it is purely a daily driver where you don't push it hard or have it slammed then the CS will do just fine.

there's a point when low is too low. on my old neuspeeds, i was at a 0 finger gap on the front and a -1 finger gap in the rear. i scraped everywhere, cracked quite a few front spoilers and have dents on my undercarriage from bottoming out over potholes and manhole covers.
some may think it looks great "slammed", but the whole bagged look seems kinda ghetto to me.. like chrome and veilside kits, dont do it.
the drop you have right now looks great! if youre not rubbing now when your suspension is fully compressed (bumps, dips, holes, apexes), you shouldnt have any problems lowering it more. i have 17x8.5 +54 w/ 245's in the rear and they were tucked when fully compressed with no rubbing issues whatsoever.. the fronts with a 17x7.5 +48 w/ 225 es100's would rub every now and then.
imho, dont change a thing, your car looks great as is!
