Not the right forum. Moving to S2000 talk. But you're right, a very reliable engine.

25k is hardly a milestone for good engine, let's talk about it once you hit 400k

That's a little bold. It IS NOT a good idea to redline a car whenever you want to - even if the engine is near indestructable. If you like your car, treat it nice. Shifting at 8.3k is the position for max HP. No need to shoot to 9k. Trust me, your car will last longer!

Ry
Shifting at 9k (ap1 of course) puts you higher in the rev range for the next gear so you are making more power after the shift. Also keeping in VTEC. If you shift at 8.3k you will fall out of VTEC and lose power.

Try downshifting into 2nd at 85mph and see how indestructible it is.

that doesn't sound reassuring at all..

thousands of track miles, doesn't seem like a lot?

how did his engine give out?
Track miles are a lot different from street miles, no matter how "spirited" you drive on the street.

Let's try some example numbers. Say during a track day you may actually get 3 hours of driving time. During that three hours you're at full throttle say 33% of the time. That's 1 hour at full throttle and probably 2 hours in "VTEC" over around 150-200 miles. How many times have you run the engine that hard over 200 miles, less than a tank of gas on the street?

One guesstimate that I've seen, is that 1 track mile approximately the equivalent of 10 street miles as far as wear and tear. Krazik's 20-40k miles all of a sudden looks a lot better, and I thought the engine spun a bearing from oil starvation, which really isn't really a wear problem.

it's ok to hit the revlimiter constantly despite what it feels like. if it was hurting the engine, honda would have lowered the ecu limit.

i agree and am even more impressed than you as ive been revving my 2.2 to 9k. it feels like the car gets mad and doesn't work smoothly unless it is revved high.

My mechanic works on everything from LS6s to Rolls Royces along with numerous porsches, bmws, lexus' etc. etc. He told me he once took apart an F20 engine and it was the most impressive engine he had ever looked at.

I'm not sure about the F20C, but I'd imagine it would be similar. The K20A was run, I believe, for 3 weeks straight at max rpm stopping only for oil changes, and the motor still did not have abnormal wear and tear.

If you knew how many thousands of times I've hit redline in those 25k miles and the motor still doesn't burn A DROP of oil, even with 7,500 miles synthetic changes, you should still be impressed.

The motor just feels unstressed at ANY rpm level including bouncing off the 8,200rpm rev limiter.
