How Much Does Car Paint Weigh??? Interesting...
This is an interesting article from the BMW forums. Me think on the S2000, perhaps 10% less due to the fact that we don't have a top???

I don't know how to take a quote from different threads, but...
I brought this up a while ago.
"Did you know that the Yukon Denali has 100 pounds of paint on it!
The XL(Extra Long) has 10 more than that!!!
Strip the paint off of your S. If that is like 10 pounds, then you should be a happy camper.
Seriously, a hood prop. Make your own, cause if someone tried to market one, then nobody would buy it."
Not sure how accurate this is. A friend of mine worked at a GMC Truck dealership here in Louisiana. He always told us interesting facts about the vehicles, and this one stuck with me.

It isn't just cars that suffer from the weight of paint. Ever wonder why the Space Shuttle's external tank is orange, while the boosters and orbiter are white? The first two space shuttle launches had a white external tank. Afterwards, they stopped painting the external tank, and that saved about 600lbs. The benefit was that almost 600 extra pounds could be hauled up to orbit.

Don't quote me on this, but I would think it weighed more than 600 pounds. Your average gallon of paint weighs, what, about 15 pounds? That would mean you could paint the entire main external tank with 40 gallons....sounds a bit short to me. But I'm not a rocket scientist, either

i didn't see it mentioned, but i have been told that black is actually the lightest paint. Well, a body shop guy told me this so i'm not sure just how true it is. He said a black car could be 10-15 pounds lighter than say a red or blue car due to all the extra pigments in the colored paint. I dunno, could be
everybody knows black is the fastest though

CLEAR paint is generally going to be your lightest. In large quantities, it may actually make a difference. White is generally made with some sort of chromium compound, so you're talking heavy metal flakes. Of course, the other pigments and colors have different metals, as well.
