The engine weight is given in Dan Carney's book, or some other article. I can't remember exactly, but I believe it was around 280lbs. I'll verify.

The engine actually weighs 326 lbs, and is quite heavy for an I4, or so I'm told...

On page 68 of Dan Carney's book, the engine is referred to as "light" at 326 pounds.

The Ferrari 360 V8 weighs only 78lbs more -
how about an engine swap.
Should be quite interesting...

Without knowing exactly what was weighed it is hard to be accurate, but it does not appear to be light at all (I guess it takes alot of forged parts to hold 9000 rpm). It is not hard with the many aluminum parts available to build a 400HP American V8 that may weigh only a few pounds more.

Interesting -- I thought compactness and lightness were two of the major objectives of the F20C design... At any rate, Honda claims it's superior in both respects (2 inches length and 35lbs, respectively) to their 2.2L Prelude engine, so I'd assumed that it would be considered "light" in comparison to other engines, too. I'm certainly surprised that a 3.6L V8, even from an exotic like Ferrari, would be only 25% heavier. Perhaps, as others have said, it's a matter of what's included in the 326 lb. figure.

Here's a quote from Honda Corp website, "Compared to standard two liter, DOHC VETC's, the S2000 engine is shorter in width and length, and is considerably lighter."

I don't care who says it, this is not a light 4 cyl engine. It may be light for what's in it, but Dan Carney wouldn't know and frankly, I don't believe Honda's corperate website much. Either way, you probably can't make it lighter aside from a few toys like a header, so what is the big deal?

If you want a difinitive answer on weight you might be able to get if from the HyperREV mag, they actually took one apart.
