I checked my source which was a Honda sales training paper and it stated a weight of 326 minus "accessories". That would be without alternator, a/c compressor etc., but would most likely include the header.

Most I4 engines are less than 2.0L though, right? And none have to withstand 9000 rpm.

Perhaps, similar to hp/liter, some insightful metrics here might be hp/kg and kg/liter. For comparison with an "ordinary" 2.0L I4, Ford's Escort engine might be a good choice. I'll see what I can dig up.

Couldn't find weight data on theFord 2.0L Zetec engine specifically, but a few pages seemed to indicate that about 1 hp/kg is typical of production car engines (so at 1.6 hp/kg, the F20C is in fact pretty sporty). An interesting article is linked below, which also shows a linear relationship (i.e. approximately constant ratio) between hp and weight, and also hp and displacement. In fact at the end, the article notes that 1L displacement seems to imply about 100 kg, so again the F20C shines with only 75 kg/L.

Note that sports-boaters have apparently been keenly aware of the issue of engine weight for a long time; I wonder why this hasn't trickled through quite so much into the auto industry.

This is straight from one of the German magazines I have here (weight of engines):
- S2000 = 149kg
- M Coupe (321hp) = 232kg
- 911 Turbo = 260kg
- F360 = 184kg
- Diablo GT = 270kg

I suspect less than a gallon of gas

https://www.s2ki.com/forums/showthread.php?...4&highlight=gas

If the 149kg is true then
149kg = 328.45 pounds (yes I rounded up from .4887706355)

I cannot find the exact weight of the Z06 engine but with aluminum block and heads and a plastic intake it is exceptionally light for its displacement. I did find several references indicating the whole thing is probably less than 200 kg. At 405 HP it would have a pretty impressive ratio.

Weight shmate. These comparisons to Chevrolet and even (dare I include it within the same sentence as "Chevrolet") Ferrari engines are inappropriate due to the inherently reliable nature of a Honda vs. a Chevy or Ferrari.

Also please don't forget that whether or not the S2000 engine is on the porky side, it does contribute to the car's nearly perfect front/rear weight distribution!
