How much rain does it take to hydrolock?
Hey guys,
I've been wondering how much rain it takes to get a CAI to hydrolock your engine. Will "basic" rain hydrolock, or does it take standing water to be up to the filter of the CAI? Are cases of people hydrolocking common? I live in Georgia and rain can come down hard occasionally.
Thanks in advance.

You'd have to either have the filter completely saturated with water or submerge it in a puddle deep enough to cause a vacuum to draw water into the cylinders.
In other words, quite a bit.
I've had an AEM V1 (no bypass) since I bought the car. I've driven it through pretty deep puddles (carefully) and lots of rainstorms and never EVER had a problem.

Unless someone chimes in with bad results.
i have an AEM V2, and it should be noted that the filter end is pointed slightly upward, so water can collect in the tube if the car is sitting in a downpour. people have built "umbrellas" to protect against that. if you do a search, i'm sure you'll come up with many DIY's. newer AEM V2's have a drain hole at the bottom-most part of the tube. it comes with a plug that is pretty easily accessible. i use an Injen hydro-shield...because ohio weather is the most unpredictable weather in the country!

I had a AEM v2 and Ive driven it through a couple puddles and heavy downpours with no problems. I actually cut a hole in the panel where the grill is to get more air into the chamber where the filter sits. With that said I was actually afraid of sprays when following other cars but I never had a problem. Just gotta be a bit more mindful in wet conditions

Nice.
How is the V2 btw? Have you dynoed it? I have been looking at it, and it is really convincing.
