Sorry to hear that man.

Did you launch the car a lot or do anything since owning the car to provoke this differential failure?

If you are in school for auto mech, ask if you can bring the car in for a project. Unless you have $$$ to burn. In that case it'll help if you hold your cheeks open becuase the dealer doesn't care if it hurts.

Sounds like a good time to upgrade to 4.57r gears. Perhaps Hardtop Guy can help you get your diff re-built and get 4.57r gears at the same time. Both OEM and 4.57r gears are about the same cost...and your ring & pinion are probably hosed.

well you could get brand new comptech diff housing with 4.56 gears installed from hardtopguy.com for $2,588.00 plus shipping. If your housing is fine, you can get gears installed for $1,588.00 ($1000 core charge refund). This just leaves you to get the new diff on the car.

dealer quoted me like $4300 when mine went. i bought a used AP2 diff (all you need is a flange to fit onto AP1) from hardtopguy for $1k and had a local mechanic install it for $200.

however...i just saw today a guy was selling an AP2 diff for $700, so i suggest you pounce on that deal if it's still around.
