If you run the oil for extended intervals 4000+, should you change your filter at a shorter interval, say every 3000 miles for filter, XXXX for oil?

If you don't have to waste oil with excess oil changes, please don't.
How much oil is wasted if you use synthetic?

hehe

if people didn't buy/use more synthetic oil than they needed, not as much would be produced...also, synthetic oil has to go somewhere when it's used since it doesn't just disappear into nothing.

Both are waste to me.

filters should be good for longer than the oil drain interval. Amsoil claims 25k miles.. I imagine Honda filters are quite capable of filtering for 15k+ miles.

Mobil 1 and honda PCX filter every 3000-4000 miles. Car is autocrossed about twice a month sometimes co-driven.

I'm wondering what owners of the S2K feel about the best mileage intervals to change oil. I'm aware of what the OM says, but it can't hurt to change the oil every 3,000 miles, can it? Why the hell not, it's only about $30, and I like to take better care of my car than it needs. The cleaner the oil the better, my engine deserves the best.

What do you think? What are your oil change intervals?
This is like saying my shoes are half worn out, but I'm going to buy new ones because my feet deserve the best. This may be of great benefit to the shoe companies, but does it really do anything for your feet? For all of you guys that think you know better than Honda engineers and say 3000 miles, I say why is that a magic number? If you really want to protect your baby wouldn't 1000 miles be better? If 1000 is better how about 100? Better yet don't start it and you'll NEVER have to change your oil. You 3000 mile types are just plain anal.

Up to a point I agree
But.. the owners manual states to change oil every 3000 miles in the "severe" maintenance schedule, or every 6 months (which ever comes first).
The tricky part is to determine IF your car is driven continuously in those severe conditions.
For people who drive their S2000 during summer only it is probably the best option.

Personally I change oil every 10k to 12.5k kilometers (as a DD, during all seasons)
Synthetic oil is expensive enough here.
Maybe this time @ 10k because I'm very curious about how the oil is doing and I want to get an oil analysis done (I can't wait...)
currently @ 7540 km and counting
