^ Yes, you have to torque it properly.
Hand tightening the filter isn't enough and it could eventually fall off which could lead to engine fire.

maybe someone can help me with this problem. my s seems to be losing oil. i cant figure it out where though. this time around im going to be doing the oil change myself to make sure it is done right.

When I have to resort to that, I get the fattest, longest, roundest screwdriver I can find so I'll not only have leverage, but the shape of the screwdriver is less likely to just shear through the metal of the filter and leave me with half on the car and half on the ground in a puddle of oil.
