Safe? Yes, if driven carefully. Definitely no, if driven like a maniac. I recently spun my S around 180 degrees at a track. The S has a huge tendency to fish-tail (meaning the tail will spin out sideway), more than other RWD cars I've driven.

I thought it's the other way around PLUS in the top 20 of all cars made for safety in term of roof collapse.

From experience of being the middle car in a 3 car accident, the car behind drove me into the car in front, I can tell you the car is safe. The crumple zones worked very well and the passenger compartment was left in tact. I was hit hard enough that when I was pushed into the car in front my foot was on the break and it wound up tearing the cartilage in my knee. No whip lash at all. Seat belts were great, air bags did not deploy, and having Ricks head rests to snap back into was a great comfort. Just my $.02

this is a tricky one..ive been thinking about this for ages...as im really unsure if i should get one....ive got a 275 bhp audi s3 which is 4 wheel drive and has traction control...the s2000 has a limited slip diff and no traction control...is that right?...this combination can be very tricky in the hands of someone who doesnt know his limits..tell me if im wrong?...im gonna take the plunge and im gonna get one.......just gonna have to control myself!

Controlling yourself is really the key, chicane. I this car, and I'm no race car driver!!!

If you want to explore the S2000 limits, do it in a safe area where there's no one to hurt.

That's my opinion.

Welcome to s2ki.com! Personally I would say the RSX is a safer car (having owned both), however, it is not worlds safer.

The side airbags in the RSX are useless unless you get in that type of accident. And, if you look at the amount of bracing the S2000 has, I'd actually be confident to say that the S2000 would be safer in a side impact simply because of how our car is designed.

The RSX of course has the fixed roof, which *may* help in a rollover, but we've heard of S2000's rolling over and the occupants have luckily mostly been free of injury.

Your parents are going to simply think "small car, bla bla" but I think the S2000 is a very safe car.

Yes the S2000 is cheaper for insurance. I was $7,029 per year (Canadian) on the RSX-S. I'm about $6,238 per year on the S2000.
