How soon should I buy??

Barry's advice is good. Obviosly, you don't want to give up something really important like your education, a family, children for a car. But if that's not a reality you face, buy the S2K.

I totally see everyone's point about driving the beater through the winter. That's what I plan to do anyway...I'm most concerned that I won't be able to get one at all. Waiting until April seems kinda risky.
I totally agree there too. Schaumburg Honda, one of the most arrogant dealers around, said they'd bring it down to 34 before I even told them I was serious. But since I'm only 22, and my ONLY priorities are school and work, I think if I had to fly out someplace an' drive her back, it'd be fine...I'd just get to VTEC sooner!!

You obviously want that S2K really bad, and I'm with you all the way. All things considered, plus the fact you wouldn't be able to drive it for 3 or 4 months, it probably isn't a good idea to be buying one right now. On the other hand, you'll never get a better deal than if you buy now. Perhaps I can suggest that you spend the next few weeks shopping around until you find a dealer who'll agree to sell you a new S2K for delivery in April, at M.S.R.P. or better. That way you'll be able to lock in to a lower price than if you try to buy in April. If you can provide a reasonable deposit (can you afford, say, $3000?), that should get you a written agreement from the dealer to sell to you at that agreed price. You also want to ensure that you'll be buying the car without any options included. If you think you need them when April rolls around, then buy them through our sponsors. Most options can be bought for a lot less than the dealer will charge.

I think your best bet is to shop around starting now...I was amazed at the price ranges in my area (within 50 mile radius) when I started looking...anywhere from $5,000 over MSRP to what I paid for mine (less than MSRP). Also, one word of advice, since you are young and are currently driving a front wheel drive car, (not sure if you have any experience with a rear wheel drive car), you may want to take a rear wheel drive rental (say a mustang) and play with it for a day in a deserted parking lot, before you push your S2000 on the streets.

With my first "real" job I bought my first new car, a Honda CRX Si. It was the first year it was available in the U.S.
The CRX had many of the attributes of the S2000, however. Light, revvy, great handling and a two seater. Sure wasnt 240 HP though!

Ditto on the pursuit of your dreams. Time flys when your having fun. 45 and retired and in a new career. Dreams are what keep you young. Live your dreams but make sure you walk and don't run after them. Living your dreams is kind of like a fine wine. It didn't get that way in a hurry. Savor each and everyone. Got two kids older than you. I can remember myself at your age also. Do what you think is best for you and you alone!
