How unique is the S2000?
I have become suspicious of the quality of routine maintenance done at my local dealership. My local dealership dosen't even stock washers until I ask for them. Everytime I reach a new point in my maintenance schedule, my local dealership, Allen Honda, has to order the parts. I'm not talking pistons, cams, or anything exotic. It started with transmission and rear end crush washers. the only washer they had in stock was the engine oil plug, which obviously is a Honda standard. The parts manager, got one out of a tub, next to the service bay. My S2K will be three years old this Fall. I decided to flush and refill the radiator this weekend. The Helms manual calls for draining the block, as well as the radiator. There is a crush washer sealing the block drain plug. Once again, the dealer had to order the washer! Does anyone know if Honda uses special crush washers for the S2k? It would seem very inefficient to have a different line of washers for one car! Am I being paranoid?
It sounds like bean counters at work at your Honda Dealer. I don't understand how a dealer that sells this car doesn't have fairly common parts needed for common maintenence and repairs. I'd have a talk with your service manager and threaten him that you will go to another dealer for service. Maybe you should talk to an Acura dealer to see if they can give you better service. Then, if you need any warranty service done, you can take it to the Honda dealer.

How unique is the S2000?
In Sheridan County, Wyoming, out of about 8,000 motor vehicles, three are Honda S2000s. For two years mine was unique. Then two new MY2001s came to town. If you wanted to know about silver S2000s or MY2001 S2000s, mine is uinique--the only one in the county.
Anyway, when my S2000 developed the dreaded ticking that was caused by a failing #4 cylinder, the dealer first ordered a valve cover gasket before getting on with the diagnosis.
most dealers just don't stock parts for the s2000. It seems the simplest things takes a week. I had a broking plastic brushing under my shifter, it took 7 days. I am still waiting for a new CAT, its been 3 weeks, and still no word.
Somethings are faster then others. My HID bulb when out and the dealership had them in stock. My top was slashed and they were able to overnight it.

Many of these "crush washers" are just aluminum and can be re-used. For the most part, the transmission and diff washers can be re-used at least 3 times. The big plug used to drain the block is no exception. As long as the ring isn't visibly damaged, it can be re-used. Don't worry so much!!!
