How useful is the VAFC?
Some say it helps a lot and some say it doesnt do much, what kind of HP/torque should I be expecting from a fine-tuned VAFC with i/e/h setup? Also I was told you need to re-set your ECU every once in a while to make the VAFC work functionally, any input will be appreciated, thanks!
A VAFC without some significant time on a dyno and a knowlegable tuner is not going to help a great deal. In fact you could end up leaning out your engine to much causing all kinds of undesireable results.
The problem I've seen with VAFC tuning, even with a dyno and a good tuner, is the lack of accurate Air/Fuel ratio measurments. Sticking a sensor in the tail pipe seems to cause a bunch of drift in the readings.
To do it right, it seems like you need to weld a bung onto the exhaust upstream of the Cat and measure from there.
