HP vs. BHP...

Unless I misunderstood the question, BHP is simply the measure of the horsepower taken at the flywheel. HP ratings are generally given 'at the wheels' sometimes noted by WHP, but not often.

HP, or HP at the wheels, will take into account the amount of power lost in the drivetrain, which explains why the HP number is always lower than the BHP.

Beware! There are many different standards for measuring the output of an engine. Some measure gross output (as in the SAE standard).

Others insist in all ancilliaries such as alternators, standard intake/exhaust systems. Different temperatures etc. This is why the same lump will produce silghtly different outputs quoted as BHP, PS, etc.

Generally, German PS or SI Kilowatts are the accepted measures.
