I added Valvoline Max Life Engine Protectant to my crankcase on my first oil change before 7,500 miles. According to R.R. , it is simular to the OEM oil fill that came with my S.

After 10 months and 9,200 hard miles, I have switched to M1 fully synthetic oil and she runs like a champ and very, very little oil consumption.

Chazmo, you beat me to it. It's on page 120 of my '03 manual.

"Do not exceed 5,500 rpm for the first 600 miles (1,000 km) of operation."

I followed Honda's recommendation for break-in. I did do a fair amount of engine braking to help seat the rings. I've used about a quart of oil in 5,500 miles. Doesn't seem excessive.

I took my car to its first autocross with 750 miles on it, and last week finished third at the North East Divisional Solo Championships. You tell me if following Honda's procedure gave me a weaker motor.
Mark!

I never got a chance to come over and talk to you, but had a good time racing against you at the NeDivs. I was the co-driver of Greg O's Silver car (#49). You really had me worried on day 1! Fortunately I got the knack of the car a little better on day 2 but my performance on day 1 guaranteed that I would have a chance at Perry.

This was my first ever autocross in an S2000 and I had a blast. As I drove my M3 home I couldn't help but think it felt like driving a truck.

Anyway well done!

ive always wondered... never reving past 5500rpm or accelerating HARD during break-in.... how do you know how the dealers, mechanics, and test drivers drove the car before you bought it? my car had 110 mi. on it when I bought it. Who knows? besides, doesnt honda do a hi rev test on the motor anyway, before they ship it?

Mine had between 700 and 800 miles on the odometer. You know what though, at the time...I did't care at all. I got an S2000!

Honestly, kids, I think it's probably much ado about nothing. There's nothing to sweat here. Drive it, love it, and have fun!!! The engine's certainly not bulletproof, but it's a sweet piece of work. Just keep your eye on your oil.

Obviously you have no control over what's happened to the car before you pick it up at the dealer or, especially, 2nd hand. Incubus, I'm assuming yours wasn't new, right?

Live the dream (and make a loud noise) !

No Synth oil now.
Check the oil all the time (Every single fill).
Constant RPM is bad.
Don't tailgate cars, because the windshield hates rocks, and you'll hate them too after you get a look at the hood.
I only operated the top with engine running (otherwise you're really straining the battery)
BE CAREFULL WHILE DRIVING IN THE RAIN...Seriously get the hang of it...I went to the mall parking lot on a wet Sunday night (mall's closed), and just started fish-tailing all over.

Damn I miss my car

Who'd you sell your car to? I see a couple other Silverstones around town but not sure who they are.

I'm at about 500 miles now. Have hit vtec maybe 3 times and mostly keeping it in the 4-5k range. Oil hasn't gone down a bit thus far and first tank mileage was 24.6. Figure after this tank is done, time to start revving the thing out and having some fun, though I'm able to fly thru my local canyons at around 5500 easily.

Still find some of the noises I hear with the top up unnerving but will go over them all when I bring it in for its first oil change/re-alignment. Hoping they'll have another '04 S2k there that makes the same noises and I'll stop listening.

Very happy with the color choice. Probably see 2 or 3 Silverstones a day (really) which look great, but it's nice to have something different. We've had consistent temp's over 100 lately and the car doesn't feel like an oven at stop lights, even with the top down.

So far I'm loving this car and look 4ward to everytime I need to get in it! Without a ? the best car choice I've made. It just took a few years to figure out what I really wanted.
