just because you have driven a ferrari doesn't mean anything. and just because you have not lost control of your S yet doesn't mean you never will. Almost everyone who drives aggressively has lost control of their vehicle at one point or another. professional drivers crash on a daily basis pushing their vehicles. just making the obvious more obvious.

Ok youngsters, time to chill!

YOD88 - You need to grow up. That's not an insult, it's just a fact. You are just fifteen. Give yourself the time to learn appreciation for the privilege of driving. Having a car of any sort at your age is a tremendous responsibility, no matter what make, model or year the automobile is. Learn patience and wisdom, and you will know when you are ready for a sports car. And one other bit of advice from an oldster. Take the time to express yourself accurately and effectively.

im not taking it as an insult or getting offensive here, but i don't really think i need to grow up , i responded to Ted H the way i did because i was defending myself, i felt as though he was trying to be an ass and insulting me, what would you do if people around you were saying things are are recieved as being offensive or as an insult? from what ive seen from kids my age i think i am very mature, kids my age act stupid and do stupid things sometimes, i have actually been told my many adults that i am mature for my age,
and to Ted H , i am sorry about responding to you in that way, as i said above i was taking it as an insult because that is what it appears to be.

I started out with an '00 Civic Coupe 5 speed when I was 16. The S2000 would be a BAD CHOICE for a new driver.

Even at 19 I think this car is way more than I should be driving, because its more then powerful enough to get you into trouble.

If and when you do get one, you'll need to learn the great art of "self control"

And do me a favour: If your parents are buying it for you, don't let them buy you such a nice car... you'll respect your cars more if you pay for them yourself.

i'm 20 years old and have an S. My advise is that you need to get some practice in before you try an S. I've been in a TON of fast cars and i absolutely love the S. True, it's not practical, but i love it anyways.

Go with a 99 civic si to start with...that will give you a good idea of what to expect with the vtec and all....but if you've never driven a RWD your in for a shock with the S! IT'S SO DAMN LIGHT!

This all seems to be blown way out of perportion.

Yes, the S is fast and might not be the best choise for a new driver. But, for those of you who are older, don't you remember all the hot roders back in high school? I went to a large high school in the early '80s and we had many kids, 16, 17, 18 yrs old, who drove some hellaciaously fast cars that they basically built themselves. They'd take something like an old beater '68 Camero and spend every spare dime on tricking it up. Some of these cars would walk all over an S2K and have next to no safety features. Talk about too much power in the wrong hands!

I think it really comes down to the maturity level of the individual driver. Some kids, not many, but some are capable of treating a car and other drivers on the road with respect and are OK with driving a car like the S. Others are going to be idiots no matter what they are driving.

I guess I'm saying to the original poster, if you are a mature person for your age, and drive as such, then go ahead and get what you want if your parents are cool with it. Don't let a few friends who've screwed up decide for you. You have the choise to be more responsible than they were. The older you get, you're going to see and hear of a lot more people you know having car wrecks. Don't let that scare you. Instead, learn from their mistakes and become a better, safer driver yourself. You'll then be more capable when it's you're turn behind the wheel.

Good Luck

I don't take that as an insult, however here is my responce:

- I built my first computer at the age of 9.

- I own a Web-TV show

- I take classes out of a university

- and because my responce abilities + quick thinking I have already been assured a position as a CIA intern by someone that carries a fair amount of weight there.

Never mind the fact I am no where near as immature as the normal 16 year old... And if you don't think I should have one, too bad. I bought it, I recieved As in all driving tests, and I am sure enough of my abilities that I decided to purchase one about one month ago.

Children should be more concerned with school and good grades not fast cars that might cause them injury or death. I blame the parents of this child for allowing him to even buy such a car would be much better for the child to learn on a slow more practical car just my opinion.

You are already ahead of most kids your age, at least you are aware of the danger and are asking questions. You seem not to have a know it all attitude.

My first advice to you is do not get this car, it requires lots of experience to drive fast. Things happen suddenly in a S2000 and they happen without warning.

If you must have it, and you want to stay alive, I would recommend one of those high speed driving courses. Bondurant, Russell, Barber, they are all what you need.

Good luck

ghost: Your not the only one, and I don't think myself as a pro, if I did I'd wait another year and buy a ferrari.

"Aok": Concerned with school? I just stated I get classes out of a university... All which I have (almost all high) As in.

And I don't speed anymore than 4mph, so I don't think the slowness point you made counts, unless you are speaking of acceleration.

Plus, why do they determine this? Yes they are my parents, but I have obviously made such good decisions so far to get into my position, doesn't that mean I should be able to buy it? If my decision capability wasn't good enough, then I wouldn't be able to bring in enough money to purchase this car.

Edit: I admit I'm getting confused who some of these posts is directed at, if I responded to someone who was directing their opinion at the origonal thread starter, then I apologize.
And it might help to direct your threads more clearly in the future

Sharks, who are you directing that post too
