Default I don't fit!!!!!!!! (Long)

I went out S2000 hunting with a friend of mine who is also looking at purchasing one within the next few months. First we went to Lindell Honda, where the retard that helped us said that they had just dealer traded the S2000 that he told us they had (two hours earlier) for an Odyssey. He also mentioned that list price was $10,000 over MSRP, and that they weren't selling for anywhere near MSRP.

(I'm thinking, yeah dumbass, that's why you're not selling yours, and trading it for a freakin' minivan!!!)

In any case, we decide that dealership is retarded (also based on the fact that a salesman asked me, "is that the new Celica?" when we pulled up in my 2000 GS-R). We should have just turned around..

Okay.. next stop, Brandon Honda. There, we are greeted by another sales grunt that informs us that they have 4 (!!!!) S2000's, but they are all in the showroom, they're charging $2,500 over MSRP, and they don't give test drives. Jackass. Okay.. on inside, another sales grunt asks us if we need help and we state we'd like to take a look at the S2000's. He says, "let me get the keys so I can show you the insides." He gets the keys for the used 2001! Mkay.. we send him back to get keys for a 2002. In any case, to the point of my story - I don't fit!!!! I tried to get in, which I could, but I had to basically use my arms to swing my left leg in. I'd really like to test drive one, just to make sure that I'm uncomfortable and/or can't work the clutch well because I absolutely love these cars!!!

BTW, I'm 6'5", 240.. if anyone knows of any tricks to getting in, and/or making my situation work, let me know!

Also, I'm a long-time lurker, first-time poster. Great board!!!

LOL!

Reminds me of another dealer I heard about who said they no longer sold a particular model because they couldn't keep them in stock -- they were too popular.

It's remarkable that some of these guys can even figure out how to dress themselves in the morning.

There are some other folks here who say they're as big as you are, so maybe you can work something out. (Me, I'm only 6 feet even, and don't have a problem.)

Welcome, and good luck.

Well, next to you I'm a petite flower (6'4", 235), and it is a snug fit, but I don't have any real problems getting in & out of the thing. Just make sure that the seat is all the way back in the track (seatback cannot be reclined at all) - this put me in a position that was more upright than I was accustomed to, but you get used to it quickly.

This car wasn't built for the truly large, but it is a lot bigger than a Miata, f'rinstance.

Was the problem getting in or after you are in? I'm 6'4" and it fits me just fine. Lean into the car and place your weight on your right hand or forearm on the center console pad, grab the steering wheel on the 10 o'clock position, pull both knees up, swing both feet under you, extend legs and plop in the seat. Its slick. If you have problems after you get in, move the seat forward one notch and tilt it back..do it again if needed. You can find the perfect position with a minute or two in the seat.

Good luck with the brain dead salesmen. I bought mine from a kid first day on the job. Half way through the encounter they pulled him off and put the senior sales guy in his place to split the commission. Two week later the kid didn't work there...go figure.

Same thing happend to me when the S2000 just came out around here.

I went into Sherwood Honda in Delray legitimately thinking about purchasing the car. The guy told me the price was $38,000 or something crazy like that. I started talking to them and got them down to $35,500. All along they told me they didnt offer test drives. Basically I laid it down and said I'm not dealing on a car I havent driven. They ended up taking it out of the showroom, and let me drive it around the block. Complete assholes. Especially considering they were trying to rape me on the price. That would have been about $7,500 in profit for them on that car.

FWIW I was patient and kept looking until August when I was able to buy one under sticker.

I'm also a big guy (6'5" 240), but for some reason I fit fine. I think I have a longer torso and shorter legs. I will admit however that if the car had a tilt wheel I could get much more comfortable!

I'm 6'2" 250lbs. I had a knee operation 2 weeks before trying on an my S2000. I had gotten used to sitting down first then swinging my legs into the car. I exactly fit so there wasn't a problem. Once my knee healed, I tried the right leg first approach and almost got stuck. I'm sticking with my original method sit first then swing you legs in.

I test drove the first one in 1999 I think. It was one of the first ones.

I had to wait until August 2001 to get one!

6'4", 240. Fit fine - it's not supposed to be a Lexus. I find I can get it with the top up easily by getting the right leg in first, bending low and just use the momentum to complete the deed. I've seen worse setups - try ~6' and getting into a Lotus Super 7 with top up...

Getting out, especially in tight quarters, can be more problematic. In those cases, I just use my left forearm against the door cutout/fender just above the latch for leverage.

All this goes away with the top down...
