Just got home and what a ride!
I took a pretty good beating from a beautiful red BMW 850 ci. I do not know what was under the hood but it is a serious kicka$$ machine that layed a spanking on me. He passed me coming into the toll area and then waited for me to pay the toll, he looks over at me, smiles, gives me a thumbs up and we were off.
I have to say that BMW can move. I was sitting at 125 mph
and he was still pulling away. We both backed off because of traffic ahead of us but we got a good four miles of fun.

If I'm not mistaken, the 840ci was a 4.0 V8 ($78K+ new). . . However, the 850ci,
was a 5.0 V12 ($96K+ new). . .
The car was Heavy as hell, but with a V12 you need some weight to keep you on the ground
Bottomline, V12 = Linear (almost Limitless) acceleration. . .
I always loved that car. . .

The 850 was like 296hp the first few years and a little over 300 in the later years...
They really arent that fast, as they weigh over 4000 lbs... But, in my Sentra SE-R, I got my lunch handed to me by a Dinan 8
twin turbo V12...
Who knows what this guy could have done to his 8... I don't think you should lose to one stock vs stock...
Maybe I am wrong though... I just know the older 5 liter V12 really wasn't super super fast... infact, I recall the 750il being lighter and quicker than the 8 series coupe. I also recall reading that the 840Ci was cheaper and only a slight bit slower than the 850...

850ci had a big, bad 5 litre v12. ealry ones had just under 300hp. It was not the quickest car made (it was quite heavy) but it would move. It was also quite fast.
I would say that you likely ran into a well driven, and very rare 6 speed model. The steptronic auto should not have been much of a problem for you until you were well into triple digit speeds.
Having said that, BMW did import into the US the 850csi for about a year. This car had an Motorsport massaged transmission, engine, and suspension. If memory serves me correct, it had well over 300 horses under the hood and was a real screamer. Beautiful car.

The M8 prototype was based on the 6.0 V12 600BHP engine with a full aluminium body for the car and tons of lightweight parts, the car was a lot lighter than the 850Csi !!!! The weight was around 1200Kg for 600BHP!!!!!
But the M8 has never been produced, the main reason is that at the same time the McLaren F1 supercar was released.
In fact, BMW has been involved in the design and production of this McLaren supercar with the same engine, the 6.0 V12 and instead of producing nearly same car, BMW cancelled the M8 and only produced the 6.0 V12 engine for McLaren F1 super car....
The M8 has never been produced but 1 fully running prototype exists, somewhere in the BMW private museum ;-)))
