I Must Be Deaming!
Two weeks ago, I stepped out of the apartment to find my '99 Miata under a foot of water. Those who live in the SF Bay area know of the storm that swept through here.
Much to my disappointment, I found out a few days ago that my beloved roadster was declared a total loss by the insurance company. Feelings of depression quickly vanished when the ins. rep. told me what the settlement would be....$17000.
Knowing that there was a possibility that it might be totalled, I test drove a new WRX, Miata, and an Automatic Mazda 6 s. To quickly summarize, the WRX's suspension was too soft for my liking; no dealers in the area carried a Mazda 6 with manual transmission; and I've always wanted more power in the Miata but didn't have the cash to turbo/supercharge mine -- nor would I feel confortable doing it to a new vehicle.
The S2000 was always in the back of my mind, but the price tag for such a sports car was beyond my income. Or so I thought. After doing some investigating on the internet, there was no question that if I were to check out any they would have to be 2002, because there's no way I'd pay 25k+ and not have a rear glass window.
So I made the hour long drive this morning to Marin Acura for a look at a triple black 2002 S2000 with 7500 miles. Honestly, I had no intention of driving this home today, but after my first test drive, we talked cash. I made myself perfectly clear to the salesman that I couldn't possibly sign any documents without first looking at another in the area which the asking price was considerably less. The sales manager then approached me and asked what it would take for this gorgeous car to leave the lot in my hands. He put up a small fight, but after 30 seconds he said....."Ok. $29,000."
Though I'll be paying on this car for many, MANY years, I'm finding it very difficult to erase the smile from my face after driving this incredible car for the past 3 hours. Somebody pinch me, 'cause I must be dreaming.

A few more thoughts before I hit the bed...
Might chief concerns with this vehicle are living in an apartment community having only a carport for protection, and it will be my daily driver.
Should I run and out get a lockable car cover? Is this a deterrence to the thieves?
I have no other vehicle, this is it. One look at the trunk and I might have to give up golf. The trunk size of the Miata appears huge compared to the S2000. Anyone get their woods back there without a problem?
Cheers,
Jason
