You'll be fine if you keep the balance right. What I mean is things like letting off the throttle abruptly, shifting gears (up or down), turning too hard, etc all upset the beautiful balance in a corner. Being lowered helps too.

get an AP2..the AP1's 9k redline isn't all that. the power tappers off after 8000rpm's anyway.
But yes, the ap1 spins around way easier than the ap2, i have owned both

Buy an Ap2 they will never spin out no matter what you do
any car will spin, even front wheel drive, if you 'try'.
i have been in a few situations where the back end lets go, but a little countersteer, some throttle feathering and its one of the nicest cars i've ever had the pleasure of sliding around a corner. and i am running 265/18s
it is VERY well behaved, even in full fishtail.

Ive almost spun my CR which is heavily dialed for understeer when compared to older models. Though it was on the track
Its all in how you drive it. You just gotta be a little more careful with the older ones when learning its limits.

Haven't had a spin yet. I was very wary of the issue when I first purchased a couple of months ago, so I'm taking it easy and building up my driving experience/skill with the S before i try anything.

The problem is not with ordinary aggressive driving. The problem is at the very limits of adhesion. The early AP1 had very difficult-to-recover oversteer if you took it beyond a certain point. As others noted, on the street this is common only in the rain or if you're right near peak power (8K+ RPM) in tight turns (and with some abrupt inputs).
I only ever looped my AP1 on racetracks, never on the street. But I did have some mild tail-out moments on the street. If you have no racing experience you WILL lift at those times and make it worse.
I have an AP2 now. My thoughts are, it is not as "pure" or "animal" as the AP1 but makes a better daily driver. That's the entire trade-off to me. If they only made AP1's I'd be driving a new AP1 rather than any other car I can afford.
